Southwest Community College in Memphis open for Scholarship Saturday

Southwest Tennessee Community College will have computer labs open on each campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 for Scholarship Saturday, a statewide event to help high school seniors sign up for Tennessee Promise.

Tennessee Promise is a new scholarship that provides two years of community college or technical college for high school graduates, staring with the class of 2015.

Students may use the money to attend any of the state’s 13 community colleges, 27 colleges of applied technology or other eligible institution offering associates’ degrees.

Students may come to any Southwest location: Macon Cove Campus, 5983 Macon Cove; Union Avenue Campus, 737 Union; Maxine A. Smith Center, 8800 E. Shelby Drive; Whitehaven Center, 3035 Directors Row, Building 6; and Gill Center, 3833 Mountain Terrace.

Free refreshments will be available. Southwest will waive the $10 application fee for those who complete the college application during the event.

The deadline to sign up for Tennessee Promise is Nov. 1.
